Shooting of decoyed pigeons takes place in a variety of carefully selected settings thanks to scouts who work daily to follow the movement of the birds. This guarantees the best locations for hunters, who may perhaps shoot one day in a recently harvested grain or peanuts fields, the next on a river bank and the next over a waterhole. Depending on the conditions, guests have the option of hunting pigeons by way of pass-shooting or using decoys. Progressive farming techniques, including active crop rotation and no-till planting ensure that literally tons of waste beans and corn remain available to hungry hordes of doves and pigeons. This grain production is surrounded and interspersed with the forest of the Gran Chaco which covers northern Argentina, southern Bolivia and western Paraguay. The result is an environment in which the populations of spot-winged and Picazuro pigeons flourish in incredible numbers. These are truly High Volume Pigeon Hunts.
A typical day consist of breakfast at the estancia at 7:00, departure at 7:30 and arrival in the field at 8:00. Bird boys will have been at work since the early hours of the morning so that upon arrival guests will find the blinds prepared and the guns ready, meaning that shooting starts upon arrival. Drinks and snacks are on hand constantly but at mid-day shooting stops for a hearty lunch at the estancia or as is more often the case, an unforgettable field lunch.
The traditional Argentine «asado» a time-honored grilling tradition started by the gauchos, consists of steaks, sausages, ribs, robust wines, salads and fresh breads and is often served at the same location where the prior hunt took place. Additionally, us in-field chefs frequently collect birds shot in the morning to use in preparing delicious brochettes of dove or pigeon. After lunch, cots are set up to offer guests a brief siesta while the bird boys clean the guns and prepare for the afternoon´s hunt. At sunset, following the afternoon´s hunt, guests return to the lodge where they will find waiting delicious hors d´ouvres, a full bar, masseuses and hot sauna.
Due to its northerly location (closer to the equator) the region enjoys a delightful climate that changes little throughout the year.
The hunting season is May to September.
